FIRM PROFILE / PERFIL DEL TALLER

GV Architects was founded by Gregorio Vásquez in 2008 in Santiago, Chile after his professional development in one of the most prestigious architectural firms of New York and New Haven.

Formed under the wing of the incipient digital architectural department of the UNIACC University (1998), Gregorio had the possibility of researching – using new technological tools – different architectonic explorations and approaches. Projects such as the ENEA Trade Fair Venue (2004) are examples of that passionate need for exploration, found in his works.

“The fruits of such a risky academic gamble did not take long in coming, thanks to a broad and attractive portfolio”*, and the famous office of the architect César Pelli invited the newly graduated architect, Gregorio Vásquez, to join his firm in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. Of the projects in which he participated, one of the most outstanding at an international level was the tender for the Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco whose first place was awarded to the firm, ahead of such architects as Santiago Calatraba, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Richard Rogers.

The view of introducing the Pelli Method in Chile, together with all of the potential players in the development of the project – from grass roots to finish – meant GV Architect constantly remaining in touch and cooperating with Pelli Clarke Pelli , as well as being invited to take part in numerous tenders and projects.

Maintaining this concept of cooperation, the idea of C-Studio (Desing Colaborative) – a strategic alliance between Roberto Architect and GV Architect was born . The team, headed by Roberto Espejo and Gregorio Vásquez, had its early beginnings in their experience gained working with César Pelli (23 and 5 years, respectively), who are currently developing projects in Mexico, the US and Chile.

At a personal level, one of the lines of action of the founder of GV Architect is his approach to teaching. Lecturing and organizing workshops for 3 rd year architectural students, Gregorio remains permanently linked to the UNIACC University, contributing with his knowledge and experience in the use of technological tools, always seeking a way in which to direct them to the different cases that arise in architecture.

A large part of the team in GV Architect are young professionals who have been linked academically to Gregorio, thus building up an important platform for professional development when the time comes to lodge tenders for domestic and international projects of different sizes.
